The Murphy Bed Project

Here is a quick little photo essay of our latest project.  We built a Murphy bed, or wall bed in our guest room.  We had a queen sized bed in a cozy (meaning fairly small) bedroom in our house.  The bed pretty much took up most of the floor space so we decided to look into building some kind of wall bed.  When the room wasn’t being used as a bedroom it could be used as a music room or playroom for the little dudes.  After a whole bunch of shopping around we decided that there was NO way we could afford to buy a complete Murphy bed already built and ready to install.  So we bought a hardware kit for a queen sized wall bed, and construction plans online from Create-a-bed.com for $300.00 (Yikes!)

Then it was six sheets of furniture grade oak veneer plywood, oak edge banding, solid oak trim, glue, handles… Well, let’s just have a look at some photos, ok?

Yeah! A Music Room.

Ok, you know what they say…  “If you built it they will come”.  So grab your guitar, your mandolin, your ukulele, or your jammies and your bedtime bear and come on over.
