A couple of days ago I got a call from my daughter asking about New Years resolutions. Our conversation centered around kayaking, camping, and bicycle trips, and the bottom line was, Leane had made her New Years resolution. She said, “Dad, I need to get back to my roots“. Which for a girl that had grown up enjoying the great outdoors meant, it was time to get out there. So with that settled Leane took the initiative and planned out a January 1st snowshoe trip to our old winter-time stomping grounds. Lake Easton. (The photo at the left is Leane and her brother, Travis. It was taken about 30’ish years ago, and remarkably, less than a mile from where we were headed today.)
We had a special treat today. Leane had invited the Peterson family to join us and her pack of manly men. Matt, Julie, Annelise, Solveig, and Ole were a wonderful addition to our holiday snow bash. How about a few photos:
Of course with 6 kids out in the snow there was usually someone crying. A face plant, a mitten full of snow, a sled towing mishap… But the tears were quickly replaced with giggles and laughter.
The dudes were all styling their winter fur hats.
After a while it was time to head back and get everybody warmed up. Hot drinks, sandwiches, and cozy blankets did the trick.
Just behind the parking area was a perfect sized little dude sledding hill. So once lunch was finished it was time to break out the sleds.
I made a little movie highlight reel of our downhill daredevils. Have a look:
Well, like the little ones said, thanks for watching the movie. As for Leane feeling the need to “get back to her roots”, well, you be the judge.
That’s about it for this edition of the Adventure Journal. Here’s wishing all of you a happy and healthy New Year.
